According to the Irish construction industry, there’ll be an extra 3,000 hotel bedrooms in Dublin by 2020. This is in response to the exponential rise in tourism that the Country has been and continues to experience moving forward. Construction Information Service also support this projection stating that Dublin’s hotel room stock will rise 15 per cent over the next three years as new hotels in the Docklands, near Dublin Airport and surrounding city area’s open their doors. One property group behind an upcoming hotel scheme soon to be realised in the Portobello Dublin 8 area is MKN Property Group. MKN acquired Portobello House, Harbour House and surrounding properties in mid-2016 and have applied for planning last month for a proposed hotel development on the site. Adding to the growing list of high-profile hotel schemes going up around the city, Portobello is set to add an additional 178 rooms to the total projected number of hotel rooms over the coming years.

The development will consist of:
- the demolition of the existing 2 to 4 no. storey buildings at the subject site and the construction of a 6 no. storey over basement, 178 bedroom hotel of approximately 5,775 sq. m with terraces at the fourth floor facing south and east, as well as a setback terrace ( non -public access ) at the fourth floor ( northern elevation );
- all ancillary areas to include staff areas, external service yard to the west, welcome / reception, bar, licensed restaurant, gym, meeting room / business library, laundry and electric substation and transformer all located at ground floor level;
