Construction of the new Belfast Transport Hub is nearing completion. Approved by the Belfast City Council in 2019, this project is set to transform the city’s transportation infrastructure and become the largest integrated transport facility on the island of Ireland.
3D Design Bureau were appointed by SACYR to provide a detailed architectural animation of the upcoming Belfast Grand Central Station, highlighting local points of interest, and illustrating the extensive regeneration efforts accompanying the hub’s construction.
Using supplied models and detailed project information, our team effectively represented the sequence of construction events in the hub’s surrounding area, including, for example, the removal of road surfaces, application of new surfacing, updates to road markings and signage, among others.
The project has resulted in a high-quality architectural animation lasting over 8 minutes, which will assist our client in presenting the current construction efforts to stakeholders. You can watch a video with snippets of the animation below.
The new Belfast Grand Central Station will expand bus stand capacity to twenty-six and double the railway platforms to eight. It will also ease the relocation of the Enterprise service from Belfast Central, seamlessly integrating with the Belfast Rapid Transit (BRT) system. This is part of a larger mixed-use regeneration strategy designed to revitalize the surrounding area.
The hub will introduce new bus maintenance areas, parking solutions, track and signalling enhancements, and a bus access bridge. The project also encompasses provisions for cycling, taxi services, and car parking, alongside a new public square and extensive public realm improvements.

Belfast Grand Central Station extends over a 20-acre site stretching from the current stations to the Royal Victoria Hospital. Half of the area will be dedicated to the new transport hub and the other half available for commercial development.
With construction expected to end in the last quarter of 2024, and the entire project to be completed by end of 2025, Belfast Grand Central Station can increase its annual capacity to twenty million passengers.
