An Coimisiún Pleanála has granted planning permission, following an appeal, for a major new residential and mixed-use scheme in Athlumney, Navan, Co. Meath. The approved development will deliver 322 homes, alongside extensive community amenities, a neighbourhood centre, and a new public park.
The Sunlight Exposure study showed very high compliance rates, with the vast majority of units achieving strong levels of natural light. In addition, our Sun on Ground (SOG) analysis demonstrated that residents will benefit from well-sunlit outdoor amenity areas. Ultimately, the approved scheme performed very favourably in terms of daylight and sunlight provision while maintaining a positive relationship with its surrounding environment.
The residential mix will comprise 212 houses, set primarily at two storeys in height, along with 26 duplex units and 84 apartments distributed across three blocks ranging from four to six storeys. The apartments will feature a combination of one- and two-bedroom units, each with private balcony space.
A highlight of the scheme is the inclusion of large landscaped open spaces, including play areas, communal gardens, and a new district public park of approximately 1.65 hectares. These will provide both residents and the wider community with high-quality outdoor amenities.
The approved plans also feature a 1,778 sq. m community centre and sports hall, with changing rooms, community rooms, and office space, alongside a 512 sq. m crèche located on the ground floor of one of the apartment blocks. In addition, the neighbourhood centre will provide a mix of services, including a convenience retail unit, café, takeaway, pharmacy, and GP surgery, ensuring amenities for both residents and the wider community.

The scheme will have provisions for car parking spaces, as well as bicycle parking spaces.
Once complete, the project will deliver a modern residential community with integrated amenities, enhancing both housing provision and local infrastructure for future residents in Navan.
