The remaining space within the blocks will allow for the construction of an additional commercial unit and a retail or café unit. Each of the blocks will contain a community amenity room, some with an associated outdoor terrace.
The central classroom block of the school, including 2 staircase towers, is a protected structure and will undergo renovation to be included within one of the approved 8 blocks. The structure will change in use to accommodate a childcare centre with an outdoor play area and a community unit.
The construction of this development will also include an extensive amount of open space. The centre of most blocks will contain communal open space or will provide roof gardens or podium-level open space. Additionally, multi-use playing pitches and a running fitness trail are being built.
During the application process, the developers submitted a statement demonstrating how this project aligns with the objectives of the Dublin City Council Development Plan. This plan, formerly known as the Development Plan 2016-2022 and now updated as the Development Plan 2022-2028, helps determine the whereabouts of new schemes and how they will be constructed to ensure the development process is inclusive and beneficial to the citizens it will impact. By adhering to these guidelines, the developers successfully obtained planning permission for the scheme in 2022.
