Galway City Council, in partnership with the Land Development Agency, has submitted a planning application to An Bord Pleanála for the construction of Corrib Causeway, a new large-scale residential scheme on Dyke Road, Terryland, Galway. The proposed development will deliver 219 apartment units alongside a range of community amenities.
3D Design Bureau has supported the planning submission by producing architectural CGIs, verified view montages (VVMs), and a daylight and sunlight assessment report. The report found the scheme performs very favourably from a daylight and sunlight perspective. While some impacts were noted, none affected windows serving residential spaces. In light of Galway City Council’s broader redevelopment strategy, we consider the impacts acceptable within the overall planning context.
The development is designed as a single block ranging from five to nine storeys over a lower ground floor and will accommodate 109 one-bedroom, 100 two-bedroom, and 10 three-bedroom apartments. A 241 sq m childcare facility with a dedicated play area is also included in the proposed plans, and it will be located at ground level.
Of the 219 proposed units, 90% are designated for affordable cost rental homes and 10% for social housing, supporting the delivery of accessible and inclusive accommodation in the area.
Public and communal open spaces totalling approximately 2,778 sq m will feature outdoor seating, landscaped gardens, play areas, and sports equipment. Moreover, Corrib Causeway will have provisions for bicycle parking spaces, as well as a limited number of surface car parking spaces.
