Attract Visitors During COVID-19 with 3D Virtual Tours

With Ireland effectively going into lockdown and as we spend most of our time at home, attractions are using clever solutions to still attract thousands of visitors. Many of Ireland’s top tourist attractions such as the Guinness Storehouse and the Cliffs of Moher are utilising innovative tech-driven solutions such as 3D virtual tours to bring virtual footfall traffic to their space.

Combating Netflix binging and mindless social media scrolling, attractions can offer culture and education to anyone and everyone from the comfort and safety of their homes. Users can explore a truly immersive 3D walkthrough of museums, galleries, national parks, venues, exhibits and monuments through the power of Matterport.

Virtual tours can integrate Mattertags to any object or area within the space which can include facts & information, videos, presentations, sound bites and even GIFs, all of which allow users to learn as they travel through the space virtually.

With current restrictions looking likely to be extended by our Taoisheach, Leo Varadkar, it is highly unlikely the return to normality will be happening anytime soon. So now is the perfect time for Irish attractions to start offering 3D virtual tours.

Guinness Storehouse’s New €20m Gravity Bar – Dublin, Ireland

Akin to the adjacent original Gravity Bar, the new extension has 50 panels of ground-to-ceiling glass with inlaid inscriptions of stats and points of interest from the city skyline.

The expansion doubles the size of the tourist attraction with 360-degree views of Dublin City expanding from the Dublin Mountains all the way out to Howth Head.

The 3D tour below is completely computer generated by 3D Design Bureau using 360-degree interior CGIs and stitched together to create an immersive tour with amazing views. So real, you can almost taste the pints.

A fun fact to bear in mind while you’re taking the tour; it would take 110,000 pints of stout to fill the new Gravity Bar.

The Cliffs of Moher – Clare, Ireland.

Heading to the West of Ireland, the Cliffs of Moher attract more than 1 million visitors each year. Along the famous Wild Atlantic Way, the cliffs offer sweeping panoramic views at a height of 214m (702 feet) making them one of the tallest cliffs in Europe.

The 3D virtual tour below offers users breath-taking views from various standpoints across the Cliffs and from the adjacent O’Brien’s Tower.

While it may not live up to experiencing the fresh Atlantic sea air, it comes pretty close considering you’ll be viewing through a screen or VR headset.

Athy Heritage Centre-Shackleton Museum – Kildare, Ireland

Celebrating the lives and achievements of the town and the local area, Athy Heritage Centre features the only permanent exhibition on Ernest Shackleton, an Irish explorer who led three expeditions to the Antarctic.

The original sledge and harness from the expeditions are on display, along with a model of the Endurance, Shackleton’s triple mast barquentine that sailed on the legendary 1914 Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition. Visitors can also watch video footage captured by Frank Hurley, who served as the official photographer for the Antarctic expeditions.
