Camden Quay Hotel Now Under Construction in Cork

With construction now underway, the JMK Group is set to open the Moxy Hotel and Residence Inn by Marriott Cork City soon. This new development at Camden Quay will create one hundred jobs and mark the group’s fifth Irish hotel.

The €50 million hotel development will be located at the former McKenzies Circuit Courthouse site on the bank of the River Lee in Cork City. The 3-star hotel includes 148 hotel rooms and 43 long-stay suites along with a rooftop bar, gym, ground-floor restaurant, and café. The developers are aiming to achieve an eco-friendly BREEAM Certification which is an international assessment of sustainability performance.

The project will involve the retention for development, conservation, refurbishment, and change of use of the existing courthouse building which is a protected structure. A two- to six-story annexe will be constructed to the rear of the protected structure.

The location is the latest addition to the JMK Group’s current portfolio of four hotels in Ireland including Holiday Inn Dublin Airport, Holiday Inn Express Dublin City Centre, Waterford Marina Hotel, and Hampton by Hilton Dublin City Centre. The group also operates three hotels in the UK: Hampton by Hilton London Ealing, Seraphine Hammersmith, and Seraphine Olympia in central London.

John Kajani, Chairman of the JMK Group said, “We have enjoyed great success to date in our locations in Dublin and Waterford. Opening in Cork was a natural evolution for us, particularly as Moxy Hotel and Residence Inn by Marriott® Cork City will enjoy a prime location on the banks of the River Lee, opposite Cork Opera House. We look forward to welcoming our first guests in 2023 and becoming an integral part of this exciting city. Cork represents another key step on our journey to expanding our presence in Ireland.”

CGI consultants, 3D Design Bureau, liaised with the development team to construct a series of 3D planning and 3D marketing solutions. 3D Design Bureau produced verified view montages, presentation photomontagesarchitectural CGIs, and a BRE daylight & sunlight assessment which were submitted as part of the planning application to Cork City Council. The visuals are now being used for marketing purposes with national media covering the project.
