A seven-year planning permission is being sought by J. Murphy Developments Limited for the construction of a Strategic Housing Development in Swords, County Dublin.
An Bord Pleanala have received a planning application for the construction of a 7-storey development predominantly dedicated to Student Accommodation on Seamus Quirke Road, County Galway. The proposed development would replace the 100 estimated car parking spaces currently existing on this site.
Ciaran McIntyre of Elkstone Real Estate purchased the site back in February 2020 and plans to build a development that will provide a total of 240 student beds. The bedrooms will be grouped into 32 clusters of various sizes, each sharing a communal space that will provide a living, dining and kitchen area. Residents will also have access to additional amenity spaces, sports facilities and on-site bicycle and motorcycle parking. During student holiday periods, the bedrooms will also be available for short-term let.
In addition to the residential units, the 7-storey block will also accommodate a café unit with an ancillary takeaway at ground floor level.
The proposed site will provide public open space which includes the construction of a public plaza along the eastern boundary as well as rooftop gardens.
To accommodate this development, changes need to be made to the current site on Seamus Quirke Road. Developers plan to relocate the pedestrian access route in the car park from the Seamus Quirke Road to the Westside Shopping Centre. The existing car park will also be reorganised which will include the removal of 94 existing car parking spaces to leave a total of 238 remaining car parking spaces in the neighbouring shopping centre.
