The Cork City western suburb of Bishopstown is set to welcome a new housing development with the construction of 276 homes now in progress. The Ardarostig Strategic Housing Development was approved in 2021 by An Bord Pleanála.
The scheme will sit on a 9.95-hectare site located between Dunnes Stores Shopping Centre and Marymount Hospice in Ardarostig. The 276 homes will comprise 137 houses and 139 apartments.
The houses will comprise 56 two-storey three-bed terraced homes, 40 two-storey three-bed semi-ds, 14 two-storey four-bed semi-ds, 12 two-storey three-bed detached, and 15 three-storey four-bed terraced homes.
The apartments will be contained within seven blocks that will range from three to five storeys in height. The apartments and duplexes include 54 one-bed apartments, 45 two-beds, 20 two-bed duplexes, and 20 three-bed duplexes.
The Ardarostig development will also feature the construction of a childcare facility and a café unit. Large sections of the site will be allocated for public and open space. The approved plans outline the provision of open greens, and pedestrian and cyclist links.
An Bord Pleanála granted planning permission in 2021 saying in their inspector’s report that the development “would not seriously injure the residential or visual amenities of the area… would be acceptable in terms of urban design, height and quantum… and would be acceptable in terms of traffic and pedestrian safety and convenience”. It would, therefore “be in accordance with the proper planning and sustainable development of the area”.
CGI consultants, 3D Design Bureau, liaised with the development team to provide both 3D planning and 3D marketing solutions. 3D Design Bureau produced verified view montages, architectural CGIs, aerial CGIs, and a comprehensive BRE Daylight & Sunlight Assessment which were submitted as part of the planning application to An Bord Pleanála. The 3D visualisations are now being used for marketing purposes with national media covering the project.
